When all the files you need are in one Finder window, select them and drag them into the destination app. The awkward part starts when the PDF is in Downloads, the images are in a project folder, and the destination window keeps getting buried while you gather the rest.
A temporary file tray can hold that selection while you move between folders and apps. Before using one, distinguish two jobs: moving files to a different folder, and handing files to an app so it can attach, upload, or import them. They can use similar gestures but have different results.
Use Finder for a direct transfer
To select separate files in Finder, hold Command while clicking each one. In a list, you can select a contiguous range with a click followed by Shift-click. Apple's selection guide covers both methods.
For a folder-to-folder move, select the files and press Command-C, open the destination folder, then press Option-Command-V. To copy instead, use Command-V. These are Finder operations documented in Apple's Mac keyboard shortcuts.
For an attachment or import, drag the selected files onto the destination's appropriate drop area. macOS supports dragging between apps; Option during a drag requests a copy where that operation is supported. See Apple's drag-and-drop guide.
If the destination is already visible and accepts the files, there is no need for an intermediate tray. Use one when gathering the selection is the part that keeps interrupting the task.
Gather files in Poffle's tray
Poffle's File Tray gives you a place to collect files before taking them to another app. For ordinary files added from Finder, it keeps references to their existing locations. Adding a file to the tray does not move the original into a new project folder.
- Open File Tray in Poffle's rail.
- Drag files from Finder into the tray, or click Add files to choose them.
- Visit another folder and add the remaining files. The tray keeps the collection while you do that.
- Open the destination document, message, or upload area.
- Command-click the tray entries you want to send together.
- Drag the selected group from the tray into the destination.
The tray shows how many files are selected. Check the selection before dragging, particularly when you are assembling several different deliveries in the same session. A file that is visible in the tray is not necessarily part of the selected group.
You can pin Poffle's rail open while gathering files by pulling it left. That keeps the tray available while you visit the source folders. When you are done, unpin it using the same rail gesture.
Prepare a handoff from several folders
Suppose a handoff needs a PDF brief, two exported images, and a spreadsheet. Add the brief from Documents, the images from the export folder, and the spreadsheet from its project folder. This lets you assemble the collection without putting temporary duplicates on the desktop.
Before sending, inspect names that could be confused: brief-final.pdf and brief-final-revised.pdf deserve a second look. Use the tray's Finder reveal action if you need to check which folder an entry came from. The tray helps gather a selection; it cannot decide which revision you intended to send.
Select the four intended entries, drag them into your message or upload area, and confirm that the destination displays all four. Wait for any upload or import to finish before clearing your working selection. The receiving app determines which formats it accepts and what happens after the drop.
Understand what the tray stores
For files added from Finder, the tray depends on the originals remaining available. It is not a backup or an archive. If you delete an original or disconnect its drive, a tray entry cannot replace the missing data.
Dropped images need a distinction. When an app supplies an image representation rather than a normal file URL, Poffle imports a copy for the tray. Removing that entry can remove Poffle's imported copy. Save any image you want to keep permanently into your own folder before using the tray as temporary storage.
Removing an ordinary Finder file from the tray only removes the tray entry. The Clear command clears the collection. Neither action is a substitute for checking that the destination received what you intended.
If the destination does not accept the drop
Try one file in the exact destination area that accepts attachments or imports. Some app windows contain several drop targets, and dropping onto the wrong one may open a file instead of attaching it. If a single file still fails, use the destination app's Attach, Open, or Import command and select the original in Finder.
For gathering from several places, download Poffle and try a small collection first. For items you are copying instead of dragging, clipboard history provides a separate way to find a file or snippet you used earlier.
